| | Professional Background | During and after college, Michelle worked the nomadic, six states in seven years, life of a professional political consultant. As a consultant on over 10 races ranging from (city council to US President), Michelle’s responsibilities included scheduling, media, grassroots organizing and fundraising. Working in politics exposed Michelle to a rich array of cultural, geographic, strategic and historical experiences. During an interlude from politics, Michelle briefly joined an innovative telecommunications company, an experience which opened windows into the corporate world. Immediately following September 11, 2001, Michelle was asked to join a team of consultants by the U.S. Navy in Vieques, Puerto Rico to help resolve issues surrounding the vital training of U.S. troops on the island. The rich culture and beautiful weather of Puerto Rico enticed Michelle to remain on the island and begin her own business. Michelle worked with the U.S. Small Business Administration and opened a successful combined laundromat, drycleaner and coffee shop – the first and only one on Vieques. Michelle met her future husband, Chris Chwastyk, on the island in 2001. Two years later, in 2003, Michelle returned to Washington, D.C. as a consultant for the Department of Defense. After realizing the dream of first time home ownership, Michelle decided to help others realize their dreams by obtaining her real estate license in 2006. Real estate has proven to be a rewarding experience as she helps client navigate the difficult waters of purchasing real property.
